Leptirica and Viy — Cinema Night in Support of Political Prisoners

Leptirica and Viy — Cinema Night in Support of Political Prisoners What does power really fear? Patriarchal dictatorship, corporations, trillionaires, and all the other guardians of the exploitative statuse quo? They fear women. Of course, they’ll never admit it as long as they own the means of production, but this night we’ll prove it together. And give them another good scare while we’re at it. Just to keep them on their toes. Come root for the leading antagonists of cult films about chthonic evil — witches and vampire women. Two films: one Soviet, one Yugoslav. Because if a woman suddenly becomes free to choose a role other than the one imposed on her, the entire structure of their power — from capitalist rituals to the “white” magic of Christ — will cease to function. The following day at Loža, we celebrate Samhain. We’ll continue rethinking the myth of Persephone’s descent into the underworld. The host is Valerian, co-founder and curator of Loža. He’ll give a lecture and moderate the discussion. He’ll also remind us why it’s important to support political prisoners and their loved ones, who are still enduring the horrific conditions of Russian prisons. All donations from this event will go to Zona Svobody, an organisation that consistently supports political prisoners in Russia. 💸 Entry — suggested donation of 500 RSD 📅 Date — Friday, October 30 🕕 Time — 19:00 👅 Language — Russian and Serbian; English and Russian subtitles 📍 Location — Dalmatinska 84L (entrance from Ivankovačka) 🚭 Smoking is only permitted outside during this event.
